The North American Retriever is a very new cross, originating first in the thoughts of several like minded breeders.  Pioneered by Jane at Lincoln Manor Labradoodles, the breeder that produced the first litter ever, these guys are quickly becoming a staple in the future plans of Labradoodle and Goldendoodle breeders. I frequently get asked what the differences are between Labradoodles and Goldendoodles, and honestly, there aren't many.  The breeds are so similar, but the Goldendoodle does tend to bring in a much softer coat to the Labradoodles lines, as well as a calmer attitude, and faster outgrowing of the rambunctious puppy stage! Combining the Labradoodle and Goldendoodle lines offer a chance at a larger gene pool, and greater diversity.  These pups tend to have the stocky body of the retrievers, with the coats staying nice and fleecey.

North American Retrievers (NAR's) are an ideal cross for many reasons.  They are mostly nonshedding, and will continue to be more so as the generations continue.  They come from the mixing of 3 great breeds, the Standard Poodle, the Golden Retriever, and the Labrador Retriever.  All 3 of these breeds routinely make the "smartest breed" lists, in addition to being great family comapnions.  NAR's are a great choice for service dog training, and that is one of the leading factors in their breeding.  Service and therapy work should be something this cross excells at, as all 3 parents breeds do as well.  Add the non shedding coat to the list, as well as being more suitable to someone with allergies than just a Lab or Golden, and these guys are destined for greatness!

I am currently only breeding standard size NAR's, but expect them to come in the same size groups as Goldendoodles and Labradoodles (mini, medium, and standard).
